Above anything else, yoga has been the best tool I’ve found to support my mental health.
It connects me to my breath & body, allows me to quieten the mind and observe myself without judgement. Yoga grounds me when I need it and gives me the self awareness to know when things feel off-balance. The consistency of regular practice has given me a safe space to come back to when I need to reconnect with myself and a routine in times (like the last year) when life has felt overwhelming.

I was introduced to yoga during my drama school training and initially just enjoyed the physical challenges of asana, but it wasn’t til a period of depression after graduating that I came to understand the benefits of a holistic yoga practice and started practicing meditation and breathwork (pranayama). I returned to yoga & did my YTT after this low point, having truly felt saved by yoga.
My practice makes me feel strong when I feel at my weakest, light when I feel at my darkest, free when I am feeling trapped. Yoga allows me to quieten my mind and hear what my soul is saying. It’s a safe space to come back to; a port in a storm. It’s the place where I feel most myself & most at home.
If you need to carve out some space for yourself to reconnect to the breath & body, why not give yoga a try?
